Overview
The Defendant was charged with murder arising from the death of Monday Talabi following a dispute over an alleged debt.
ECOLAW FIRM represented the Defendant and advanced a self-defence argument under Section 33(2) of the Constitution. In its judgment delivered on 11 March 2026, the High Court accepted the self-defence argument and discharged and acquitted the Defendant of murder.
The Challenge
A murder charge carries the most serious legal and personal consequences. The defence therefore required a clear legal response to the prosecution's case and an effective demonstration that the circumstances supported the Defendant's reliance on self-defence.
ECOLAW Firm’s Role
ECOLAW FIRM acted as Counsel to the Defendant, developing and presenting the defence before the High Court of Lagos State.
A central element of the firm's case was reliance on the constitutional protection relating to self-defence.
Outcome
The High Court accepted ECOLAW FIRM's self-defence argument and discharged and acquitted the Defendant of murder on 11 March 2026.
